Frequently Asked Questions

WHY the name MAD LOVE?

MAD = Madison + LOVE = Love

The name gives homage to Seddy’s ONE LOVE located on Jost Van Dyke in the BVIs. Seddy was a very close friend to Jeff + Kim. Seddy passed in January of 2023 (the name is even more special now). In it simplest interpretation it is all about love and the love for Madison, Indiana, friends, family, food, drink, history, art and MUSIC.

Your music is awesome - who does the playlist - how can we hear it and talk?

We are Indiana’s Music City and we had to have the best sound system (thank you Chad Nichols). We can control each area’s sound and have an endless amount of great music. Don’t worry about having to put $20 after $20 in a jukebox to avoid silence or get trapped in someone’s never-ending loop of ‘What’s up Pussycat’, we have it covered.

What SHOULD WE ORDER?

#1 SELLER is our SMASHLOVE burger

We hear a lot about: Rock n Roll Shrimp, Giant Pretzel, WINGS, Chicken everything, WRAPS, Mac n Cheese, Shrimp + Grits, sirloins, brussels, italian night and more….. Update in 2024 - Mahi tacos are amazing . If it wasn’t good, we wouldn’t have it on the menu - period…

Do you take reservations?

No.

You know that feeling when the host looks at you and asks if you have reservations and you don’t and they act like you should know better? We really, really don’t like when that happens; so it will not happen at MAD LOVE.

Why do you have a Food Trailer out back?

Our kitchen is SMALL and we mean small. Each order is processed one by one and made to order. When we expanded the number of seats to allow for an outdoor space, we knew that the indoor kitchen could not handle both, so the Food Trailer was born.

Boston Terrier LOVE?

Boston Terrier art is everywhere in MAD LOVE, we have probably the most photographed bathrooms in Indiana…. Jeff + Kim have two Bostons….

whO is that?

Lady Gaga and/or P!NK - sometimes people don’t get Bruce Springsteen. We are starting to collect art in the upstairs windows - all from local artist Brenda, located at MADART in the trolley barn shops.

what’s upstairs?

Storage - The original 1860 building was split with two entrances and the door we use today was exclusively for the apartment upstairs which is now storage. The building started as a Barber shop with a Speakeasy, many restaurants….

where DID you get your artwork?

Everywhere. The two large painting in the dining room were painted by local artist, Mark Schmidt. We have a lot of prints (Elvis, Johnny, Elton, Snoop Dog, Willy, Dolly, Bob Marley, Stones and more), we have random collections from over the years, Key West rooster, photos and more. The painting of MAD LOVE was a gift from friends, the guitar compass was all Jeff’s creation and P!NK was Kim.

whY Don’t you serve smashburgers and sandwiches on italian night?

Our kitchen is small and we have to completely switch out our stove top/flat top to accommodate italian night (which is every Wednesday). We have non-pasta offerings on Wednesday (salad, chicken, steak, mahi, rock n roll shrimp, and typically have wings and pretzels available).

HOW BIG ARE YOUR BURGERS and what makes them special?

We hand form each burger and they weigh in right @ 1/3 pound - which may have not been our brightest idea…. For some reason people think 1/3 is less than 1/4…… Our “MAD steak dust is house made and has seven ingredients and each burger is seasoned on the flat top and smashed.

Whats with the album wall?

The albums are contributions form Jeff, Kim and sister-in-law, Linda. Yes, the vinyl is in each and in tact. Like all of the art and music in the restaurant, we want you to engage and get off your device. Take pics to remember and post - we love seeing pictures.

Who is the Hostess?

That is Kim’s mom.

That is enough sharing for now - we are usually at the restaurant (you may not see us sometimes because we are in the back doing something), but we are usually running around or talking with our guests. mad love, jeff + kim <3
